Camille Adams

In Memory of Camille Adams (1925-2011)

CAMMILLE ADAMS, THE GRANDE DAME of Maryland astrology, was the Founding Member and Emeritas of the Annapolis Chapter of the National Council for Geocosmic Research. The first meeting and formation of the chapter was held on March 8, 1992 at 1:04PM at her home in Bowie, Maryland with a beginning membership of 10. She was the President of the organization from 1992 through 1994, served as an officer throughout the 1990’s and continued to actively participate in the functioning of the NCGR both locally and nationally. 1995 marked the beginning of the Yuletide Luncheon held at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. Cammille lectured on The Winter Solstice. This became an annual tradition, and she continued to lecture on the Solstice yearly until 1999.

Cammille Adams was a third generation astrologer born in England in an area known as the Cotswalds. Her family's home, she claimed, was used on postcards of the region illustrating the thatched roof cottage. Her maternal grandmother lived near Stonehenge. She vividly recalled playing in The Henge as a child. She learned astrology at the feet of her mother (Rosie) and grandmother. After dinner she was required to identify all of the astrological glyphs inscribed in the piecrust before she could have dessert. An accomplished seamstress and excellent cook, she was adept at embroidery, crocheting, knitting, and making her own clothing. She enjoyed preparing meals and luncheons for guests topped off with a traditional glass of Mead. During World War II she became a firefighter and met her first husband, an American G.I. Consequently, she moved to the United States and began her career as a renowned astrologer.

Many present day astrologers had the opportunity to take classes from her and were encouraged and inspired to pursue higher levels of study and contribute to the astrological community. She strongly believed that one should know his or her own chart before attempting to interpret others. All her charts were calculated manually as there were no computer programs or astrology software at that time. She is survived by her son, sister, four grandchildren, and a great granddaughter. Cammille Adams - mentor, teacher, lecturer and friend, you will be missed by the many whose lives you have touched.
