![]() ![]() Georgie Borkowski maintained a discreet word-of-mouth astrological practice in Salem, Oregon. She was relatively unknown on a national level, except as one of the recurring "Cast of Characters" in Edith Custer's "Mercury Hour". Georgie took up the study of astrology on September 13, 1972, despite Isabel Hickey's admonition not to do so. Eventually she passed Ivy Goldstein-Jacobson's correspondence course and served as Ivy's representative in the Oregon area. While taking classes in 1975 at Press & Ima Roberts' Arcane Book Store in Portland, she met Don Borkowski, whom she married in 1976. Georgie was an inveterate truth-seeker and loved studying religious philosophy as much as she loved astrology. Legally blind from birth, she could almost always be found with a book in one hand and a magnifying glass in the other. In all, Georgie and Don spent 26½ years talking and arguing astrology with each other, and they were both better astrologers for it. Georgie was also totally responsible for the home-schooling of their son, Ian Borkowski. About 1995, she reverted back to her birth name, Lori McClearen. BIRTH AND DEATH INFORMATION: Don Borkowski notes that she was born January 13, 1950, at 7:25 p.m. PST in Medford, Oregon (AA, Birth Certificate data). but she felt that the time may have really been a couple minutes earlier. She died November 12, 2001, at about 7:07 p.m. PST in Salem. Barbara May wrote for this memorial: Georgie also had a crazy sense of humor I truly appreciated. We laughed at some pretty weird stuff, and it was nice to know there was another astrologer out there who saw some things through the same cracked mirror I did. I have always been surprised Georgie never received the recognition she so richly deserved. She was out there in the trenchs as I was/am and lived her life as an astrologer who cared for others a great deal. I'm sure that warmth and generosity was felt by everyone who touched her life. Besides being an excellent astrologer, Georgie was a decent human being. She always tried to do the right thing, and "walked her talk". I'll miss Georgie in many ways. We were very lucky to have her as long as we did. I just wish it had been longer! Memorials A-K, Continued DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO ADD? This memorial is interactive, and we welcome
