BRUCE HAMERSLOUGH
(1948-1995)
From the NCGR MemberLetter, Aug-Sept, 1996:
Bruce Hamerslough, author of Forecasting Backward
and Forwardand The I ching Manual, succumbed to AIDS the last week of
December, He developed pneumonia in late December, 1995
and in typical Scorpio fashion, chose not to treat the
infection and prolong the suffering of all involved.
According to Dennis Flaherty, his friend and business
partner, his spirits remained high to the end.
Bruce held a B.A. in Biology and an M.ED. in Science.
He was certified as a professional astrologer in 1983,
and had served as the president of both the Metropolitan
Atlanta and Washington State Astrological Associations.
In addition he spent four years on the board of AFAN.
His numerous articles, two books, and many guest
appearances on both television and radio, influenced
many in the astrological community and many more
through his counseling and teaching techniques.
He was the co-founder of Greenlake Metaphysical Center.
Quoting from Flaherty's eulogy, "He asked you all
not to grieve unduly for him. He experienced a rich
life doing what he loved; being with those he loved,
and living and loving every minute of it. Bruce often
said you can lose your health, but never your sense
of humor! He embraced this philosophy right to the end.
The epitaph he chose will read: 'Having a wonderful
time. Wish you were here'. We will all miss you
buddy. See you next time around!"

TRIBUTES:
In the early 1970s Bruce was a student teacher at Leland & Gray Union High School, Townshend, Vermont. LGUHS is a small school in one of Vermont’s most famous towns. He did his student teaching under me. Bruce assisted in my 7th and 10th grade classes. L&G was a happy school and I was using individualized, self-paced teaching with lots of lab work in classes of up to 24 students. The classrooms appeared to be in chaos because every small group was doing something different. Bruce jumped right in to the scene. He was well-liked by the students. He was easy-going and had a constant smile. I was moved to write this because a former student wrote to me (36 years later!) asking about Bruce because he made such a positive impression she remembered him well. I have thought about him over the years wondering how he was doing. I am saddened that another of my friends has died from AIDS, and especially saddened that we had lost contact and I did not have a chance to tell him how much he was liked and appreciated.

I remember Bruce very fondly. He was a student teacher at my high school when I was in the 10th grade in 1972-73 in Townshend, Vermont. He was working with Robert Hall, our biology teacher. Bruce was a wonderful person, friendly, kind and patient. He also had a fabulous sense of humor and wasn't afraid to laugh at himself. He had a great grin that would spread all over his face and when seeing it, I could not help but smile. High school was a difficult time for me as it is for many teens. Bruce was only there for one year I believe, but his generosity of spirit, his genuine concern and his willingness to impart botanical knowledge stayed with me. He served a beautiful loving example and showed all of his students unconditional positive regard even when we must have been challenging teens. I just found out he passed away 14 years ago but it caused me to grieve his passing. I believe in reincarnation and know I will meet him in another lifetime and will do so with great joy!
