Philip Sedgewick's tribute to Joyce Jensen at StarIQ:

Joyce Jensen, founder of Astrological Institute, Inc., the first accredited astrological school in the country, passed on, returning to the stars she so loved, on November 14th. Joyce often amazed me in so many ways. It was always a pleasure to watch her animated face take in the comments made by others, and usually it ended up in the same result-with an outburst of her outrageous giggle.

A Scorpio, she personified the alchemical part of her birth sign as well as anyone. When she and others started AI in Scottsdale, Arizona, it took the place of a former pawn shop (now a pizza kitchen!) next to a gun shop. From this humble building her vision expanded to taking on the government. She had the audacity to ask for government loans for students wanting to study astrology. A long and difficult battle, she persisted finally being awarded the accreditation.

Over the years I had many talks with Joyce. She would relate her plans. I would scratch my head and ask how she was going to do all this. At this point she was predictable. She'd say she didn't know and giggle. But somehow, in a non-ending series of miraculous manifestations, she'd find a way. I am convinced she was not just an astrologer-she was a magician. She pulled so many rabbits out of her hat over the years.

Her efforts to persevere would fatigue an observer. She worked relentlessly during an obscene number of dedicated hours at all hours of the day or night. If you called at 3 AM, she'd probably answer the phone. Her commitment to astrological education was unyielding, her faith unswerving.

Personally, Joyce was always kind and gracious to me. On numerous instances she helped me in ways that you can be sure another Scorpio would never reveal.

On the 18th while driving to a service for her held at the school, I had a vision of her directing mortals from the other side ensuring the propagation of astrological education. I'm if not mistaken she was snapping her fingers like a corporation-commanding Capricorn, unlike her style her on Earth.

In true Scorpionic, resurrection style, Joyce's dream will continue! NorthStar College of Astrological Studies, under the direction of Jody Russell, founder and Co-President of RainStar University, is applying for state licensure to carry forth and expand the vision that Joyce Jensen so diligently brought into fruition with Astrological Institute, Inc. Joyce will be missed and fondly remembered. You may call, (480) 429-0009, or visit us at 4443 North Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ, 85251.

Kaye Shinker notes:

To all who may have known her, Joyce Jensen passed away on Wed, Nov 13th from complications related to cancer. She worked tirelessly to bring credibility and dignity to astrology. Her Astrological Institute was the first astrological college in the US to receive accreditation, which is a further testament to her determination. Her gentle presence and vibrant energy will be greatly missed.

Warm regards,
