PUBLISHED TRIBUTES TO JIM LEWIS:
Marion March, in Aspects, Spring, 1995:
"After a lengthy bout with cancer, Jim Lewis died on
February 21, 1995. "So young, so premature," is most
people's reaction to Jim's leaving. But age is not
always the issue--instead look at what he achieved and
what a legacy he left for all astrologers.
Astro*Carto*Graphy has changed the face of mundane
astrology and has become an ever-needed tool for this
mobile world. It will survive and continue to serve
its purpose for many years in the future.
"Brilliant, innovative, and creative, Jim was
instrumental in shaping AFAN--the Association for
Astrological Networking--and fiercely defended its
bylaws and highly idealistic structure. Yet, he
succeeded--AFAN has a unique way of networking and
dealing with legal problems encountered by astrologers,
as well as AFAN's outreach to other countries. These
will survive thanks, in part, to Jim.
"Those who called him friend are the ones who will
really miss him. I will miss him as a sounding board
for UAC. Nobody could infuriate me as much as Jim when
he insisted on being right--what can you expect with
Pluto conjunct his Ascendant? But whenever he and I
disagreed, he made me think. That was another of
Jim's talents--his mind never stopped; he never ran out
of new concepts--and four UACs benefited from his ideas.
"Jim was a complex human being, cerebral yet
emotional, a former stutterer who became one of the
top astrological lecturers of his time. He was
ambitious, yet gave more time to his causes than to
his career. I will miss our intellectual discussions
about life and death and his often wild, yet usually
feasible ideas." Marion March
