![]() ![]() On Wednesday 14 April 2004 an astrologer died. An astrologer who most people will never have heard of. Her name was Patty Reagan, and she was born and bred in Galveston Texas, where she lived all her life. Patty was the archetype of the astrologer who is the backbone of our astrology community. The sort of person without whom none of us would sell any books, or have an audience when we pontificate our words of wisdom and experience. Patty wasn’t a “name”. She hasn’t published any books, or done any notable research, nor was she even a “working” astrologer. What Patty was – is – is the symbol of what the astrology community is all about. Patty lived for her astrology. She avidly read anything new that came out, and absorbed astrological knowledge like the proverbial perennially empty sponge. She was convinced she knew nothing, and wasn’t good enough to contribute at conferences and seminars and would “lurk” on as many of the active Internet astrology lists as she could. Now and again she would tentatively ask an intelligent question, taking days to screw up the courage to do so. Although Patty made a conscious effort to stay in the background, she was always there. If anyone needed any practical help with something, Patty would do it. If there was a tragedy in the family, Patty was there to lean on and provide the support to get you through it. Her appreciation of astrological help and information was almost touching. Patty was one of those who made teaching worth while as she actively and enthusiastically put into practice the information she was given. Patty died suddenly of a stroke at home in Galveston on Wednesday 14 April. She was only 48 years old. She left behind a mother and grandmother, a much beloved husband Bobby, two sons and a daughter of whom she was immensely proud, and three or four grandchildren. She also left more friends than she knew she had. Her warmth and generosity will be missed by everyone’s life that she touched. It is the Patty’s of this world who encourage those of us lucky enough to make a living from astrology, or who feel they have something important to say. Her place in the astrology community, and the places of those others just like her who have quietly gone from this Earth with no fanfare, will be missed as much as, or perhaps more so, than had she been someone whose name was familiar to all of us.
