NCGR MemberLetter, Feb-March, 2001
It is with sadness that I report the death of George Roman, Los Angeles
astrologer and the first official founding member of the
American Council of Vedic Astrology
(ACVA). George, a/k/a The Beverly Hills Love
GuruTM, was a full-time psychic, Vedic astrologer, and personologist (face reader)
with a thriving private practice for 19 years. He was diagnosed with lymphoma
in March, 2000, and died at home October 15. He had just turned 36.
George had BIG plans, BIG goals, and BIG vision in the art of self-promotion,
marketing, and entrepreneurship. He truly cared about those he tirelessly
counseled, doing readings right up until the day he died. Through his
enthusiasm, incredibly entertaining personality, and powerful techniques,
George marketed himself to major media, appearing in newspapers and
magazines around the world including USA Today, Time, Mademoiselle,
Cosmopolitan, and others.
He was a frequent guest on radio and TV talk
shows including spots on CNN, LEEZA, Roseanne, Donny and Marie,
The Marilu Henner Show, and numerous Los Angeles news programs.
As if that weren't enough, he was also profiled in several books
including Reason to Believe, Hollywood Lovers, and The 100
Top Psychics in America.
George first learned Vedic astrology at the School of Sidereal
Astrology in Los Angeles at the home of Phyllis Kneip where he studied
with Nalini Kantha Das (Tom Hopke), whom he considered his true astrology
guru. He became certified through The Indian Institute of Astrology
in Jaipur, India, R.G. Krishnan's Institute of Vedic Astrology, and
David Frawley's American Institute of Vedic Studies.
As per George's wishes, his impressive collection of several hundred
Vedic astrology and Chinese astrology books are being donated to the
ACVA library. He is survived by his four beloved exotic birds and
hundreds of friends and clients the world over. God be with ye, George.
TRIBUTES:
Kim McCusker wrote for this memorial:
George was a friend of mine. I have known him since 1983. He was not only a great
astrologer/pshycic he was my friend and I miss him. I miss the dinners at Pizzeria
Unos here in Massachusetts and all the waitresses he would surprise by knowing everything
about them before we all ordered dinner. I go to the same restaurant now and it’s
not quite the same. We would sit there for hours after we ate and talk about life,
hopes and dreams and even the bad stuff sometimes. Negativity was not a George specialty!
“The universe would provide” he would always say. That philosophy was used in every
aspect of his life, even finding a parking space on the busy, narrow streets of Boston.
When George moved to California, we stayed in touch by either lengthy letters or record breaking phone calls and one trip to LA. Thank goodness for instant messaging which would keep me on line until 3-4 in the morning just chatting about this and that.
I actually found out via Internet that George Had died fairly recently. I was
one of his students back in the days of the School of Vedic Astrology with
Phyllis Kneip. There I learned his card reading method, which I use to this
very day and have had 100% success with it. It is a method no one will likely
learn again out in the greater world and I realize that George taught an
invaluable gift to the small group we had back then. I spoke to him on the
phone years after I left Los Angeles and learned that he was ill. Since I
visited Los Angeles frequently, we had made plans to meet up next time I came
into town. That day never came to pass and I'm saddened to have lost a friend
and great teacher. I wish him safe journey.
Shanti, shanti,
shanti, Gia von Karl
