Ann Stace Wood Schlesinger
Ann Schlesinger was the founding President of the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Council for Geocosmic Research, and the brightest, shiniest Leo you'd ever want to meet. Ann passed away on Wednesday, May 12.
It was Ann's passion and love of astrology that breathed life into our local NCGR chapter and guided it into being. She shepherded our Ohio Valley chapter through its early growing pains, assembling a board and holding the presidency for five years. Ann provided structure, support, and the strength, courage, leadership skills and resiliency of her zodiac totem, Lion. She is also remembered for her kindness, special brand of intuitive knowing, and her quest for deeper understanding. For the last year she has been the chapter's vice president. Ann and her fire will be sorely missed. Ann earned a bachelor degree, 2 master degrees and a PhD. She devoted many hours working with clients in Speech Pathology. Ann aspired to do many things and pursued life with spirit and passion and hard work to attain her dreams. She had several businesses, was a public speaker of note, was a communication trainer and coach and was invited by the International Republican Institute to coach political candidates in Montenegro, Slovakia, Croatia, Ukraine, and Albania, where two of her clients were elected President of their country. Ann authored and published a book entitled Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is and was in the process of completing a second book. She was a consummate hostess and a gourmet cook. She is survived by husband Alan P. Schlesinger, M.D., daughter Allison W. (Ross) Hendrix, son Jonathan J.S. (Melanie Hart) Wood, and several grandchildren.
A couple of the NCGR Ohio Valley Chapter board members wanted to share our thoughts on Ann:
I remember Ann as a tireless leader and a teacher. She volunteered her time and knowledge to team-teach those who wished a sound basis in astrology. Ann set up an eight-week course that blitzed the basics. By the eighth week the students had everything they needed to dive off into deeper astrological waters. She was an inspiration point and, like the big bang, it burst into all directions. – Linda Ellis Ann was our leader and founder of the Ohio Valley chapter of NCGR. She was a strong Leo leader and one you took notice of when she spoke. I loved all the Leo fire that she had. I had been thinking about how to write a short story about my dear friend. When I finally start I notice the planetary hour is that of the Moon. Our connection was with the Moon: her Moon was in Pisces and my Mercury is in Pisces, and so I loved to talk with Ann and we could connect through her Moon. Sarah Gallant, another NCGR Ohio Valley board member, is a Pisces and she also connected with Ann's Pisces Moon as well as with the Leo dazzle that Ann showed everyone.
Ann was more sensitive than most people knew. She also had a great sense about people and how things really worked below the surface. She would draw no attention to her private thoughts and feelings. With her Moon in Pisces she knew that other people had too much going on and she always wanted to hear about you first.
My last meeting with Ann was filled with such joy and happiness. Sarah and I scheduled to meet Ann at Dillard’s, the store where I work, where we would help her find a dress for her son’s wedding and go through the whole process together. Ann had been planning this event for several months and was just finishing up the final details. Sarah and I carried many dresses back to her for selection. As we went through the dresses I found myself chuckling a few times. Ann also had Leo rising; she had a look she wanted to present to the world. Her color choices were bright and sunny just like her. We went through many dresses before settling on two that were perfect for her.
One was a bright gold/yellow color that was perfect for her Leo rising. The other was a sunset orange/salmon color that looked beautiful on her, too. But I had to laugh the most when she pulled the shoes that she had brought with her to wear with her choices. They were silver with butterflies and she made several comments that she loved these shoes and Sarah and I thought, oh, how much of the Leo is apparent in the dress choices, but when it came to her feet it was a different look: it was Ann’s Moon in Pisces that was apparent! She made several comments about how and when she bought the shoes and she was so happy when we acknowledged we loved the shoes as well and that they would be perfect for the occasion.
This was the last time we both saw Ann before she passed over, but the memory will remain with us forever. We have many memories that will always tie us together. But Astrology is how and why we met. It is a bond that is strong and the connection is hard to break. It is like you have met a soul that reflects back instantly, and with no history, a connection is formed that is deep and long. Ann in many ways was a very private person with all her 12th house planets and yet with Astrology she gave her all and opened many very strong connections that will always be there. Our Ohio Valley chapter chart has a Taurus Sun. We have a small group of very determined people to hold onto Ann’s dream and make it last.
I hope this gives a little insight into a beautiful person, who will be missed for the light shining through her. When I feel the Sun or think of her I am warmed with many fond memories. – Sharon Finch
