LICORICE
Possible applications:
Licorice has been well studied and is known to exhibit many pharmacological actions such as the healing of peptic ulcers, estrogenic activity, aldosterone-like action, anti-inflammatory (cortisol-like action), anti-allergic, antihepatotoxic, antineoplastic, expectorant, and antitussive activity. Most of these effects can be contributed to glycyrrhizinic acid, but other components, such as flavinoids, paly a strong role in its healing properties. However, because of the glycyrrhetinic acid, there is some sodium retention properties in licoric that has been known to cause high blood pressure although a cautious diet of high potassium, low-sodium will allow ingestion of licorice without concern. A form of licorice, deglycyrrhizinatied licorice may also produce results in the treatment of peptic ulcers without the side effects. Should be consumed before meals.
